AFSI Webinar Recap: Reflecting on Achievements and Looking Ahead

SUCCESSES AND LESSONS FROM THE AFSI MRL AND PLANT HEATH INITIATIVES ACROSS AFRICA

On January 15, 2025, the University of Missouri (MU) and the Africa Food Safety Initiative (AFSI), supported by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (USDA-FAS), successfully hosted a webinar focused on pesticide regulation and plant health initiatives in West and East Africa. The session marked over five years of efforts to help African nations align with international agricultural trade standards, an essential step in boosting both regional and global agricultural trade.

With over 70 participants engaged in the discussion, the webinar highlighted key achievements and outlined challenges that still need to be addressed in these regions. MU and its key partner UMAP-Ghana shared insights from their extensive work in capacity building, offering a roadmap for future improvements in pesticide management and plant health.

The initiative continues to play a vital role in ensuring the safety and sustainability of Africa’s agricultural trade and practices.
